This silver presentation frame from Emperor Wilhelm II is marked on the underside with 835 silver and the maker’s mark Schmidt. It also bears the hallmark “Halbmond – Krone – 835 – WTB”, which identifies the renowned German silver manufacturer Wilhelm Binder of Schwäbisch Gmünd. Founded in 1869, Binder was not a court jeweller but was widely regarded as a producer of high‑quality Imperial German silverware.
The frame is exceptionally well crafted. The reverse features precious hardwoods used as the backing panel, and the top is adorned with an Imperial Crown, its cross elegantly extending beyond the edge of the frame.
Inside the frame lies an albumen photograph of Emperor Wilhelm II, depicting the monarch in a First World War uniform. Although the photograph originates from the Imperial era, it was hand‑signed and gifted by the Emperor on 29 September 1931 in Doorn, long after his abdication and during his exile in the Netherlands. This makes the piece a rare surviving relic of the vanished German Empire.
The frame is preserved in very good condition.
