This magnificent wedding dress from 1896 is a true masterpiece of tailoring and is made of ecru-colored silk. It is in two parts and testifies to exquisite taste and craftsmanship. The bust area and parts of the back are artfully decorated with bobbin lace, giving the dress an elegant and romantic touch.
The dress is characterized by large gigot sleeves, which give it an imposing silhouette. The front of the dress is laced, which was a common procedure at the time to ensure a perfect fit. The bodice is also decorated with three elaborate bows, giving the dress a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic.
Particularly noteworthy is the dress's dramatic train, which made for an impressive appearance at festive occasions. The skirt is also elaborately designed and is decorated at the front and sides with horizontal bows in five rows. These bows give the skirt a structured and elegant look. In addition, hanging ribbons that sway back and forth as you walk give the fabric additional liveliness and movement.
The dress is in good condition despite its age, but shows subtle signs of age and wear that do justice to the historical character of the piece. The lace shows minor discoloration and there are stains and a few very small holes on the train. There are also some loose seams, but these do not significantly affect the overall appearance of the dress.
This remarkable dress comes from the renowned Valentine Museum and is a valuable testimony to the fashion and craftsmanship of the late 19th century. It tells the story of a bygone era and is a precious piece for collectors and lovers of historical clothing.
