Stockings, America, ca. 1885

Antique Victorian socks white knit thigh high stockings with provenance note: "mother knitted these stockings for me before I was of a teen age. They were to be my confirmation stockings. Unfortunately they were out of date by that time. Emma, was confirmed in 1889." Condition: excellent, unworn, small light stain.

If the confirmation took place at the age of 14 in 1889, but the stockings were knitted when the confirmand was 10 years old, the date would be 1885.
