MARSHALL FIELD & Co. Hooded Cape, Chicago, ca. 1924

Flapper cape by Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, 1920s. Fine dark blue silk with capelet or hood and buttoned drop waist with long silk fringe. Colorful Art Deco floral silk chiffon printed interior. Very good- excellent condition. Small loss at neck, small tear, very minor surface wear. Provenance: David Moses, NJ., antiques collector. Marshall Field & Company (commonly known as Marshall Field's) was an upscale department store in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in the 19th century, it grew to become a large chain before Macy's, Inc, acquired it in 2005. Its founder, Marshall Field, was a pioneering retail magnate.
