Headdress or headscarf made of light lace, ca. 1860. Lace was considered a noble material and was often used for headdresses to emphasize a high social status. In many cultures, it was customary to cover the hair with a lace headscarf in church or on formal occasions. In Spain and France in particular, fine lace head scarves were worn at weddings and festive ceremonies.
This headdress is very elegant and in excellent condition. It was fastened with hairpins.
