Irish crochet lace blouse, ca. 1909. The blouse has a stand-up collar and ¾-length sleeves. Finished with small, white pompoms. In excellent condition. The decoration (belt, skirt, jewelry) is not included.
This lace was a particularly popular handicraft technique around 1900, known for its filigree and three-dimensional patterns. The technique differs from other types of lace as the individual motifs - flowers, leaves or tendrils - are crocheted separately and later assembled to form a complete work. Typical of Irish lace is the use of fine yarn and small crochet hooks, which makes the patterns appear particularly detailed and three-dimensional. Just like this blouse.
