This extremely rare antique Gibson Girl hat, dating to around 1890 and originating from America, is a remarkable example of late‑Victorian millinery. Crafted from filigree straw, the hat embodies the light, elevated silhouette associated with the iconic Gibson Girl - the fashionable ideal of the 1890s, known for her high, voluminous coiffure. Hats of this type were specifically designed to sit atop such high‑topped hairstyles, making them both decorative and structurally distinctive.

The hat is adorned with a rich brown velvet ribbon and decorated with charming fruit appliqués. Clusters of black and red cherries, complete with their leaves and tendrils, give the piece a uniquely playful yet elegant appearance. The interior is lined with light‑coloured cotton fabric, adding comfort and stability to the delicate straw construction.

Condition is good to very good, with the inner lining somewhat foxed, a typical and age‑appropriate sign of wear for an antique hat of this period.

A highly collectible and visually striking example of antique Victorian headwear, ideal for enthusiasts of historic millinery, Gibson Girl fashion, and museum‑quality accessories.
