Petticoat made of cotton fabric, ca. 1900, origin: France. Flounces in the hem area. Vertical stripes. Button fastening at the back. Skirts of this type were part of every lady's toilette. They were worn with all (or almost all) dresses. The unusual thing here is the color. Red petticoats are rather rare. Very well preserved.
They were a sign of luxury and individuality. They reflect the social and fashion trends of the time, when women's fashion was highly valued and often regarded as an expression of one's personality and social status. The good condition of this piece gives us valuable insights into the textile art and fashion history of France.
