Exceptional miniature by Louis Frowein, from the later Biedermeier period. Made as a silhouette, partly in eglomisé technique. Louis Frowein came from Elberfeld, Germany. His family, which had founded a textile dynasty, had been at home here since the 17th century. He was a royal Prussian councillor of commerce and lived between 1808 and 1882. His daughter Anna Witte, née Frowein, inscribed his name and dates of life on the reverse. She also states that the painting was purchased on a business trip to Hamburg. A very high-quality miniature made of ebony and an oval, partly guilloché brass frame. In very good condition. Only the frame has a stress crack.

Frame: ~ 12 x 13 cm
Image section: ~ 7 x 5.5 cm
