In the 1920s, travel to Egypt had become very fashionable. The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 triggered a "travel wave." It suddenly became fashionable to have been to Egypt. The pattern of the Assuit or Assiut shawls is a pattern from this North African country on the Nile. Assiut is a city in central Egypt. Assuit shawls quickly became a status symbol of wealth and prosperity.

The fabric of this beautiful shawl is made of light-colored cotton, decorated with numerous silver plates in a geometric Art Deco pattern. It is in good to very good condition. The decoration is not included. Only the light scarf is for sale.
