The wine glass from the Josephinenhütte, which was made for Kaiser Wilhelm II, is an artistically designed glass from the period around 1910-1912. It was part of the large Prussian service that was specially commissioned for the Kaiser.
Characteristics:
Material: Heavy, colorless glass with gilding.
Design: Faceted, cut stem with graduated details.
Decor: Relief monogram “FR” (Fridericus Rex) with standards, cannons and rifles in polished and relief gold.
Foot: Round foot with notched star.
Historical significance: The glass was designed to commemorate the 200th birthday of Frederick the Great (Fredericus Rex) and reflects the courtly elegance of the time.
This glass is an impressive example of the artistic glassmaking of the "Gräflich Schaffgotsch's Josephinenhütte" and a piece of Prussian history.
