Salmon-colored flannel petticoat, 1900. The fabric is slightly brushed, making it very comfortable to wear. At the same time, it retained heat. It was probably intended for fall or winter wear. It is unworn and in very good to excellent condition. One small hole. Two silk tie cords. Additional button for closure. Monogram of Maria Immakulata and Robert of Württemberg.
Waist: ~ 77 cm
Length: ~ 84 cm
Maria was born Archduchess of Austria. She was a sister-in-law of Marie-Valerie (a daughter of Empress Sisi/Elisabeth of Austria), a great-great-granddaughter of Emperor Leopold II of Austria, and a great-great-great-granddaughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. On October 29, 1900, Maria married Duke Robert of Württemberg, a son of Duke Philipp of Württemberg and Marie Theresa of Austria, five years her senior, in Vienna. An entire trousseau was made for this royal wedding, which likely included this petticoat.
The jewels of Mary Immaculate were auctioned for millions of euros at Sotheby's in Geneva in November 2023.
We acquired this petticoat, along with other wonderful and rare pieces, from the estate of Dr. Alexander Eugen, Duke of Württemberg (1933-2024).
