This exceptional antique corset by R. Wladika, Vienna is a rare example of early 20th‑century European corsetry and the refined craftsmanship associated with Austrian corset makers. The company operated from two addresses — Alserstraße 29 in the VIII district and Hernalser Hauptstraße 13 in the XVII district — placing it at the heart of Vienna’s vibrant textile and fashion trade. The corset features an extraordinary construction, including side buttoning, two side corset hooks, and two detachable bands with three eyelets, which could be secured using these hooks. The back lacing, four garters, and a single padded section further highlight the technical sophistication of early 20th‑century corsetry. A front hook—typical of older corset styles—was likely intended for attachment to a skirt waistband or a corset cover, suggesting that the piece may date to the late 1910s, a transitional period between Edwardian and post‑war fashion. In very good condition, the corset shows only slight darkening near the button area, consistent with age rather than wear. As a surviving example of Viennese craftsmanship, it stands as a remarkable artifact of historic lingerie design and the evolving silhouette of the early modern era.
