This festive dress, dating to around 1908, is a stunning example of Edwardian fashion and the refined elegance that defined the era’s formalwear. Crafted from cream silk, the gown features a woven narrow satin stripe on a spaced open ground, creating a subtle yet luxurious texture. The bodice is adorned with a Maltese bobbin lace yoke and a delicate standing lace collar, while the cuffs are finished with chemical lace, a popular innovation of the time that allowed for intricate detailing at a lower cost.

Designed as a one-piece dress, it measures approximately 86.4 cm (34") at the bust, 66 cm (26") at the waist, and 155 cm (61") in length, offering a graceful, elongated silhouette typical of the Edwardian evening gown. The inner sleeves are beautifully embroidered and tucked within the flowing pagoda-style outer sleeves, showcasing the layered complexity and craftsmanship of early 20th-century dressmaking.

Though the gown shows signs of age - including light discoloration, a few small tears under the arms, a 3.5" repair at the right underarm, scattered pulls, and minor stains near the hem - it remains in good condition overall. Some areas of shattering and fading to the lining are present, but they do not detract from the garment’s historical and aesthetic value.

This dress, preserved in the collection of an American museum, reflects the transitional elegance of the Edwardian period, when fashion began to shift from the rigid silhouettes of the Victorian era toward more fluid and romantic forms. It would have been worn for formal occasions, embodying the grace, sophistication, and innovation of early 1900s women's fashion.
