This green sport cap, dating to circa 1890, is a rare and well-preserved example of late Victorian headwear, possibly worn for riding, cycling, or sailing. The cap bears an English-language label from P. Weber – Hatter – 49 N. Queen St. – Lancaster, PA, linking it to the historic British hat-making tradition of the late 19th century.

Crafted from green wool fabric, the cap features a cord decoration with three metal buttons and two acorn ornaments, as well as a shield motif—details that suggest both sporting and symbolic significance. The interior is lined with glazed cotton, and a circumferential leather strap provides structure and comfort.

In very good condition, the cap shows only discreet signs of age and wear, retaining its original charm and functionality. Please note: decorative items shown in some images are not included.

While its exact use remains speculative, the cap’s size and styling suggest it may have served as a lady’s riding cap, a boy’s sport cap, or even a sailing accessory, reflecting the versatility and evolving fashion of the Victorian leisurewear era.

This rare 1890s green wool sport cap is ideal for collectors of antique hats, Victorian sporting attire, or museum-quality fashion artifacts, offering a glimpse into the transatlantic craftsmanship and lifestyle aesthetics of the late 19th century.
