This elegant cream‑colored, almost white evening dress, worn in England around 1890, may well have served as a wedding dress given its refined color palette and luxurious materials. Labeled E. Scott, Liverpool, the ensemble reflects the high‑quality craftsmanship of late Victorian dressmaking.
The two‑piece gown consists of a beautifully tailored bodice and a matching skirt, both made from richly woven silk fabric featuring subtle floral patterns worked directly into the weave. The bodice has elbow‑length sleeves finished with striking purple and gray velvet cuffs, which also frame the U‑shaped neckline. The neckline is further enhanced with lace on the inside, adding softness and depth to the silhouette. The bodice closes at the back, while the front buttons serve a decorative purpose, typical of the period.
The skirt is finely pleated and extends into a graceful train, creating the elegant lines associated with late 19th‑century evening wear. Two ribbons of different lengths adorn the back of the skirt, while lace trim embellishes the hem. The skirt also features an elasticated waist, a practical and unusual detail for the era.
The dress is in very good to excellent condition, with only minimal signs of age: subtle wear to the velvet, a few minor stains, and very light overall aging. These small imperfections do not detract from the garment’s beauty or display value. Jewelry shown in photographs is not included.
A refined and beautifully preserved example of Victorian evening fashion, ideal for collectors of antique silk gowns, historic textiles, and museum‑quality garments with documented provenance.
