This elegant two-piece evening dress, dating to circa 1893, is a refined example of late Victorian formalwear, crafted from luxurious ecru silk satin, silk organza, and chemical lace. The skirt, made primarily of silk satin, features cartridge pleats and is lined with silk taffeta, creating a structured yet graceful silhouette.
The bodice combines silk satin puff sleeves, a bow at the right shoulder, and intricate Reticella-inspired black cord lace, into which bands of French jet bead embroidery are inserted. These beadwork bands continue into the cuffs of the half-length sleeves and the high stand-up collar, adding depth and shimmer to the ensemble. The chest area is sheer, subtly revealing the skin beneath - though nearly invisible against the black tailor’s dummy.
The dress is in very good to excellent condition, with minor signs of age: a small loss of pearls, splintering in the skirt lining, missing hooks and eyes, and subtle wear to the lace and hem trim. Please note: the brooch is included; gloves, bag, handkerchief, and pearl necklace are not.
