A bustle pad from around 1890, filled with horsehair, was a padded undergarment used to shape the characteristic silhouette of the late Victorian era. These pads were worn under the skirt to add volume to the lower back and create the desired shape.
Bustle pads were often fastened with ribbons to hold them securely at the waist. Very well preserved. Some models, like this one, were fitted with steel springs to maintain the shape even better. In good to very good condition.
