English Embroidered Antique Mull Dress, ca. 1815. White cotton having empire bodice and long sleeves with puffed shoulder cap of raised ruched channels with drawstring, a similar treatment to the cuff, embroidered with satin-stitch sprigs, slightly trained skirt with a series of puffed chevrons set on the side above a puffed hem ruffle, ties at back, neck and waist. B-28, L 50-54. Good to very good condition with a few flaws: Holes and noticeable period mends. The decoration is not included.
Provenance: Helen Larson Collection. Helen Larson was a collector based in Whittier, California. She owned a successful film costume rental business and amassed a world-renowned private collection of historic fashion. She was a brilliant connoisseur and historian.
